PowerPoint presentations on the iPad.

Next week I will manning an Exhibit at the National Genealogy Society's Conference in Charleston in which I'm planning to use my iPad as a portable communication aid. However, several canned presentations are in Powerpoint format [.pps], which being a Windows program, there is no IPad app. So, here's a way to transfer the 'slides' and view them on my favorite tablet:

1. On your desktop Mac open the .pps file[s] in OpenOffice's Impress application,  http://www.openoffice.org/product/impress.html which every serious Mac user should have aboard anyway.
2. After checking that they are all there, 'Select All' slides from Edit menu.
3. From File menu choose 'Export as PDF' ;choose your location, etc. and go.
4. Open iTunes with the iPad connected and sync this PDF file to 'GoodReader' app [or any other PDF reader app]
5 There we are, you can open 'GoodReader and treat the pdf as a presentation either by incrementing pages or by using the bookmarks, which get transferred automatically.

What could be cooler than showing a Winderz presentation on an iPad?    John.
